The Department of Cognitive Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute seeks applicants for a full-time tenured or tenure-track professor, with expertise in one of more of the following six areas: (1) computational linguistics; (2) cognitive neuroscience; (3) cognitive psychology; (4) semantic science & technology; (5) cognitive robotics; and (6) AI/CogSci & music. The present ad is part of a faculty-expansion initiative under the general area of Immersive Intelligent Learning Environments (see www.hass.rpi.edu/pl/2012-job-announcement-immersive-intelligent-learning- environments) . The Department of Cognitive Science has particular strength in computational cognitive science/ modeling, human-level artificial intelligence, and perception and action, with very high annual research expenditures, a vibrant graduate program offering dedicated MS and PhD degrees in Cognitive Science, and three BS degrees: Cognitive Science, Philosophy, and Psychology. A PhD degree or foreign degree equivalent is required at the time of appointment. A successful candidate must show evidence of successful sponsored research, teaching, and service to the profession (present and/or future, depending on rank). Teaching opportunities will be at the undergraduate and graduate level. Successful senior candidates will have an established ongoing sponsored-research program in an area of specialty, and contribute to curriculum development within the department and interdisciplinary programs within the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and the institute.
