Applications are invited for the following DEL CAST studentship
(Co-operative Awards in Science and Technology):

Recommender system software platform for 360 MAM (Media Asset Management)

360 Production, based in London and Derry/Londonderry, is a company
with significant experience in the TV industry, is a leading provider
of factual content (e.g. `Digging for Britain', `James May's Things
You Need to Know About', `The Crusades') and its YouTube Channel,
`Head Squeeze', was one of 12 selected in an international competition
by YouTube. 360 Productions objective is to create innovative TV
content which can be communicated in diverse, strategic and innovative
ways, fusing great TV with great technology. 360 Production is in a
period of growth focused on revolutionising the distribution of TV
content. This goal will be pursued through the creation of interactive
multimedia, mobile and online applications, which can maximise the
interactive potential of TV content. The University of Ulster
encourages research in digital creativity, intelligent multimedia and
creative technologies, which involves a combination of knowledge and
skills from the Creative Arts and Computing and which link naturally
to e.g. Digital Cities and First UK City of Culture, 2013. This
studentship encompasses the investigation of an innovative recommender
system software platform for 360 MAM (Media Asset Management).

The project available is in the Computer Science Research Institute
(in collaboration with 360 Production) and is tenable in the Faculty
of Arts at Magee Campus.

Applicants should hold ordinary UK residence to be eligible for both
fees and maintenance.  Non UK residents who hold ordinary EU residence
may also apply but if successful will receive fees only. All
applicants should hold a first or upper second class honours degree in
Computer Science or a related discipline. Successful candidates will
enrol on a full-time research programme, of up to three years subject
to satisfactory progress, leading to the award of the degree of Doctor
of Philosophy.

The studentship will comprise tuition fees and a maintenance award
(subject to UK residence status) of not less than 15,000 per annum,
funded by DEL (the Department for Employment & Learning in NI) and 360
Production.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 10 May 2013
