The following job openings are for the research and development of the IBM Smart Surveillance Offerings, a joint project between IBM Global Technology Services and IBM Research. The openings are effective immediately and are expected to be filled by end of Sept 2007.
Digital Video Surveillance: Computer Vision / Pattern Recognition Scientist
Positions Open: Multiple, include both technical leadership and hands on research & development.
IBM Global Technology Services in conjunction with IBM Research is seeking to hire a highly self-motivated PhD’s to research and develop video analytics algorithms. The scientist’s will be working in close conjunction with a team of support software engineers. The role of the scientist will be do develop video analysis and pattern recognition algorithms, test and validate the results on video data from various customer scenarios. Specifically, the algorithms deal with, object detection, tracking, classification, calibration, multi-camera tracking, video indexing, video searching, face capture and recognition, learning, class adaptation, neural networks, ada-boost algorithms etc.
Successful candidates will have significant experience developing and testing real-world algorithms for video surveillance. The ability to demonstrate previous work on realistic video clips is critical. Candidates must have broad aptitude of innovation and demonstrate creative approaches to solving problems. The ability to independently develop algorithms for video analytics is critical.
Both fresh PhD’s and PhD’s with industry experience will be considered.
Candidates will be working on the IBM Services Offerings based on S3 technology from IBM Research. www.research.ibm.com/s3. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills and competitive with the industry.
Requirements
PhD in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition with specialization in surveillance video processing.

Digital Video Surveillance: Vision Algorithm Performance Evaluation Leader
IBM Global Technology Services in conjunction with IBM Research is seeking to hire a highly self-motivated PhD’s for leading the performance evaluation of video analysis, computer vision and pattern recognition algorithms which are applied to smart video surveillance applications. Job responsibilities will include, specifying test sets, developing evaluation metrics, leading the implementation of software system for performance measurement. The candidate is also expected to lead the development of standards activity in the industry thru IEEE and ACM to quantify the performance of video surveillance analysis algorithms. The candidate will be expected to lead a team to evaluate and certify the performance of algorithms which are destined for customer deployments.
The candidate will also play a significant role in specifying the next generation of algorithms and will work with the vision scientists and software developers to ensure the improvement in performance of the system

specifying, and implementing an extensible smart surveillance system. The job involves working with an advanced research and development team. The candidate is required to have a broad range of skills and will be involved in supporting the development algorithms for video and image processing, software engines for video and image processing, embedded systems, and large scale systems for scalable smart surveillance systems.
Specifically, a successful candidate will have extensive C++ programming with object oriented systems. The candidate should have high level of skills in software engineering, object oriented design for pipeline systems. The ability to independently specify and develop software frameworks for video processing is critical. Experience with developing software for video and image processing is beneficial.

Requirements
Masters in Computer Science with specialization / exposure to in Computer Vision / Video processing

DSP programming experience will be highly beneficial
Experience in the video surveillance industry is highly beneficial
