CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: "Multidisciplinary Approach to Designing Intelligent Environments", 25-26 July 2011, Nottingham

http://scientific-theatre.com
Contact: Yevgeniya Kovalchuk, yvkova@essex.ac.uk

International Workshop Scientific Theatre (SciT'11) Multidisciplinary Approach to Designing Intelligent Environments In conjunction with the 7th International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE'11) Nottingham – UK.

Background:
Technology is becoming increasingly people centric. Intelligent environments, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, sensing and mobile technology etc are all about people (of various backgrounds) interacting with technology. This workshop is an attempt to encourage multidisciplinary approach to designing Intelligent Environments and open up (often sophisticated) research advances in IT to as wide an audience as is possible. To achieve this, the most ancient form of communication, namely creative art (along with the more conventional methods, such as academic writing), will be used as means to convey the latest scientific achievements related to the topic of Intelligent Environments.

Goals:
· To explore what various disciplines have to say about, and can contribute, to the future development of Intelligent Environments.
· How concepts used in non-technical research fields could be used to advance the technological development of Intelligent Environments.
· In what way various disciplines outside science and technology can benefit from the latest achievements in IT in order to establish the environments people would like to work and live in.
· How achievements in various research and development fields could be effectively communicated to a multidisciplinary audience.

Participation:
Contributions are invited from students and professionals in any discipline who believe that their work is relevant to the topic of Intelligent Environments. Along with conventional research papers, authors are encouraged to submit their work in other (creative) formats, such as: poetry, dance, music, drawing, sculpture, installation, film, cartoon, etc. Please visit web-site for details.

Workshop Structure:
The event will include presentations from attendees, a keynote speaker, an invited performance, and a panel led discussion involving the audience. Please visit web-site for details.

The Venue:
Nottingham is in the heart of England and a popular tourist destination attracting an estimated 1.3 million visitors annually. Many visitors are attracted by Nottingham's nightlife, its history, the legend of Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest and popular history-based tourist attractions including Nottingham Castle.

Important dates:
Paper submission: 28th March 2011 (via the Scit'11 submission system) Notification of acceptance: 25th April 2011 Paper final submission (with revisions): 9th May 2011

Workshop Organiser:
Yevgeniya Kovalchuk, University of Essex, UK, yvkova@essex.ac.uk
