Call for Papers

Second International Workshop on Agent Technology and Autonomic Computing (ATAC'2007)

Leipzig, Germany, September 24-27, 2007

http://cloud.cms.livjm.ac.uk/atac2007/

within SABRE Conference (http://www.sabre-conference.net/)

(Deadline extended to May 22 - firm deadline -)

AIMS AND SCOPE
--------------

Agent technology is one of the most prominent and attractive technologies in computer science at the beginning of the new millennium. It is not only a promising technology, but is also emerging as a new way of thinking, a conceptual paradigm for analyzing problems and for designing systems, for dealing with complexity, distribution, and interactivity while providing a new perspective on computing and intelligence. Recently, the computing community has witnessed an interest in autonomic computing. Inspired by the functioning of the human nervous systems, autonomic computing aims to design and build computing systems that posses inherent self-managing capabilities. While autonomic computing is quite a new and revolutionary shift in the discipline of computing and a holistic solution has not yet appeared, we think that agent technology is already available and can be integrated into the framework of autonomic computing. The primary objective of this workshop is to investiga! te ideas that foster the link between agent technology and autonomic computing. Theoretical as well as practical aspects are welcome. The workshop organizers welcome participation and contributions from those working or interested in the intersection of agent technology and autonomic computing.

TOPICS OF INTEREST
------------------
The topics of interest for ATAC'07 include, but are not limited to:
- Agents for autonomic systems
- Agents in self-healing
- Agents in self-optimization
- Agents in self-configuration
- Agents in self-protection
- Agents for autonomic grids
- Agent computing versus autonomic computing
- Applications domains of agent technology and autonomic computing
- Confrontation of agent technology with other approaches to autonomic computing
- Design and management of self-behavioral networks and services

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE and FORMATTING GUIDELINES
----------------------------------------------
Authors should submit their contributions electronically in PDF format to Walid.Chainbi@ieee.org by the deadline given below. The contributions should be named as contact-author-surname.pdf (example: gregory.pdf). Papers should be written in English
with a maximum of 12 pages. Accepted papers will be published in a workshop note and distributed among participants at the workshop. Depending on the quality of contributions, we are planning to publish a post-proceedings of the papers either as a book or a special issue of an international journal as has been done with the proceedings of the previous edition of ATAC (ATAC?2006) which has been published as a special issue of the international journal International Transactions on Systems Science and Applications.

Conference Venue
================

ATAC'2007 will be held in Leipzig which will be the location for a major event in which a number
of well established as well as new conferences and workshops will join forces in order to conduct the probably biggest and most influential event in this area in Europe for 2007. SABRE will mainly focus on Software, Agents, Multi-agent Systems, Grid-computing, Autonomic computing, Service-oriented Architectures, Business Process and Services Computing,
Self-Organization, and Autonomous Systems. It, especially, will also concentrate on the relationships and overlaps between these areas. Moreover, as can already be implied from the title of the conference, SABRE will not only concentrate on research but will especially also
bridge the gap between research and industry by providing a fertile platform for business-oriented topics and presentations. Thus, we especially encourage applied researchers, users, and industry to submit contributions to one of our events. SABRE is a transparent event what
especially also means that every participant of an individual conference is allowed to go to whatever session (s)he wants to go, whether it belongs to the specific conference of her/his choice or not.
