Topic: Motion Analysis of Spatio-temporal Computed Tomography Volumes 
Risk Assessment of Thoracic Endovascular Repair

A thoracic aortic aneurysm, an abnormal bulge in a weakened wall of the 
aorta in the chest,
area can cause a variety of symptoms and often life-threatening 
complications. Due to
the serious risks it presents, timely diagnosis and treatment of a 
thoracic aneurysm
are critical. The standard surgical treatment for thoracic aneurysms is 
aneurysm repair, but now it is possible to treat aneurysms with a 
minimally invasive procedure
called an endovascular stent graft.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the magnitude of local stress 
in patients
that had TEVR. To this end, we assume that multiple cardiac phases have 
been acquired after
surgery and we aim to determine the local risk of failure of the 
endograft segment due to
important motion within the cardiac cycle. Such study aims to 
demonstrate that the risk
is varying spatially and aims to improve performance of the procedure 
through reinforcement
in areas undergoing important deformations within the cardiac cycle.

As a postdoc in Ecole Centrale, there will be several opportunities to 
work in numerous
project of medical image analysis and computer vision and collaborate 
with the
leading academic and industrial institutions in Europe & USA.

Technical requirements: PhD in computer science (graduation before 
15/12/2006) or allied
field , preferably with a specialization in medical imaging, or motion 
from motion - Excellent mathematical and  analytical abilities - Good 
programming skills
in C, C++, Matlab

Duration: 18 months, supported from the region of ile-de-france starting 
ASAP before 01/04/2007,
Salary: 40,000EU/year
